A "highpointer" is someone who seeks to reach the top of the highest point in each of the 50 states, as determined by the U.S. Geological Survey. The differences in elevations, the diversity of geological settings, and our own personal orienteering skills, makes each summit a unique challenge.  Alaska claims the highest summit at 20,320 feet, while Florida is the lowest highpoint at 345 feet.  The Highpointer's Club was begun in 1987, and hosts a website and yearly convention for anyone interested.
