Accompanied by our friends Peggy and John on our way to the Dolly Sods the four of us drove to the summit parking lot and walked the .5 miles along a well groomed trail to the stone tower marking the highest point in West Virginia. We climbed the tower, which afforded us a beautiful view in every direction. Drive-up USGS benchmark located at summit |

The red spruce, found on Spruce Mountain, gives this highpoint its name, and is the only spruce found this far south in the eastern mountains. Spruce Knob is located approximately 13 miles SSW of Seneca Rocks in the Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area of Monongahela National Forest. |
